Show Us Where You Live Friday - Kid's Rooms

Kelly over at Kelly's Korner is hosting a Show Us Where You Live Friday. This week is nurseries and children's rooms. I'm excited about this one because these are the rooms that are actually always clean and pretty much completely decorated. I can't wait to see all the other rooms. This is Sweetness's room. Her name, Amelia, was actually my husband's idea (after Amelia Earhart). Being a pilot, he would have named all our children after famous pilots if he had been allowed too. The large plane silhouette is the plane Amelia Earhart flew across the Atlantic. The three pictures of planes were drawing that my husband has had since high school. I rematted them with hot pink mats. This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I even broke one piece of glass, so I would recommend letting the pros do that. Ha!

I'm so thankful that my neighbor convinced to leave the wall color tan (like the rest of the house). I was going to paint it white and then paint the pink plane and dots on it, but I like that the pink and tan is a little more subdued - better for a bedroom.
This is Crazy #1's bedroom. He loves YELLOW. Only yellow would do for his room. At first he was even upset about the red portion of the wall. He got over it though. We added the chair rail, and we are really happy with how it turned out.

I couldn't figure out what theme I was going to use with yellow walls in a boys room, but one trip to Hobby Lobby solved that. They had a ton of firetruck stuff that was perfect for the yellow/red room. It really turned out cute. I think there is even a Weeble wagon in this picture - how appropriate.
I love these tin pictures that were my grandmother's. They even came framed like that. They have a stagecoach, train, and steamboat.

This is Crazy #2's room. I think it is my favorite. I love the colors. We added chair rail in this room too. I painted all the furniture black to match one another. I saw something similar to these pictures at Pottery Barn for girls with hot pink flowers. I liked the idea so much that I made these with clip art, a pack of canvases from Hobby Lobby, and leftover wall paint. Crazy #2 loves them.

The map of this side is an old navigation map from when my husband was in OCS. My husband brought home the frame from the dumpster at one of the apartments that we lived in early.

I love using toys as decoration. It just seems practical. Everything has a place that way. The kids bedrooms are the only rooms in the house that always stay clean. We always clean them up before bedtime. My oldest could never sleep well with distractions in his room.

Thanks for stopping by. I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's homes, and I hope you are too.

I haven't been shopping much because I was eating out of the pantry before our vacation, but I did run to Kroger to get some CPK Pizzas. I love those things. If I had room in my freezer, I would go back and get another 4 pizzas. Buy 4 and get $5 off your next purchase. Great deal with the $1/1 internet printable coupons that just came out.

On To Bigger and Better Things

It seems like just yesterday that we were making your first pb&j to put in that little "racey" car lunchbox. You loved school from day one. You amazed that first year with how much you learned. Then even more amazement followed the next year as you learned more and become a social little boy with all your little friends in school.

You were so little. Just look at the silly smile. My baby!

And now you have finished your last day of preschool. It just doesn't seem possible that you could be going into kindergarten next year.

I'm so proud of you and all the things you've learned this year. I'm most proud of the wonderful little boy that you have become. You love others, and you show them respect. I know you have bigger and better things to come, but for now, I just want to cuddle up with my baby boy and enjoy reading a book. Just remember you will always be Mama's baby. I love you so much. Thank you for the amazing joy you have brought into our lives.

Love,

Mommy

Check Out Those Lips

Look at those big gorgeous lips.
Oh, there they are again.
There is no doubt which side of the family those beautiful plump red lips came from. They come from their mama. I look at those precious babies and see only beauty, but flashback a few years to when I was a child/teenager. I was so embarrassed by the huge lips on my face. They were so different, and I couldn't wear lipstick like the other girls (little did I realize that was because I was already blessed with what the others wanted-bright red lips).
Every time I see a picture of Crazy #2 or Sweetness, I am reminded that I should be seeing myself differently. I don't get to quarrel with the potter as it were. God made me perfectly for his purposes. It is so easy for me to recognize that in my children - how each is made specially for a different purpose in life. I must also recognize that for my own life. Otherwise, I question God's sovereignty. I am amazed by how those little "big" lips always remind me that I am worthy because God made me. Thank you God for that little reminder.

Target Deals 5/10-5/16

Here is a list for Target deals this week.

Happy Mother's Day

So Pretty Boy gave me a week long rental of a really nice lens, the 85mm f1.2. We went out to try it out, but unfortunately, we got run out by the mosquitos, poison ivy, and poop in the pants (thanks Crazy #2). But oh my goodness.. just look at the bokeh. It's like "but-ta". Now if only I could rent out some new subjects.

A face only a mother could love.

Coupon Filing

Menu Maker Mom shows you the exact set-up I use for my coupon inserts. I don't print out that list like she says because I don't do my own coupon match-ups. Go to the other sites to find the deals for the week.

If you choose to clip some or all of your coupons, Money Saving Mom has a great system. If your kids are old enough, this a great way to get them involved. Have them clip coupons and start instilling good stewardship now.

Show Us Where You Live Friday - Living Room

Kelly over at Kelly's Korner is hosting a Show Us Where You Live Friday. This week is living rooms.

This is my living room looking in from the entrance. It is pretty simple. I would love to have more decorative things, but the boys are just a little too rough. The few things I have are kept up very high. :) We no longer have a coffee table in the room because it was just a springboard for too many adventures by the Crazys. The coffee table lays in waiting in our master closet for that day when it can return to its true purpose.

I made the slipcover for the couch out of some drop clothes that I found on sale several years ago. It has been wonderful to be able to toss it in the wash with bleach and get stains and filth out. Unfortuantely, the boys have begun to rip the seams out. I have a matching loveseat slipcover that is in another room right now which they have shredded. That's what can happened on a rainy day. Children and mommies can lose their minds. :) I think it is time to start sewing again. I'll put it on my list. Ha!

I love thes plates that I got at Pier 1 years ago. Lots of color.

Family pics

This is a little art niche on the entrance wall. I put my children's artwork in frames from Wal-mart (clearance), and I love them. My children love them too. They are so proud. I try to change them out for holidays too. It doesn't always happen though.
Here is the other side of the living room. I love this picture. The basket is full of shoes. One day I would like to get a red buffet to bring more color to this side of the room. Plus I think it would be a great place to store backpacks and shoes as the kids come in. I keep hoping I'll run across one at a garage sale or craiglist that I can then paint. I love a hunt!

This is our toy box. It was mine when I was little. When I got it from my mother is was pretty beaten up and a weird colored veneer. I primed it and spray painted it black. I made the cushion with some fabric that I found at Walmart for a $1. I think it turned out pretty well.

Saving Brother

"No, Gay-Gay! No!"
"Noooooo!" Crazy #2 is screaming frantically. He will pull that shirt right off Crazy #1's back.
"Gay-Gay, Nooooo!" Obviously the water is dangerous.
How can my parents allow this to happen? Don't you love us? How could you let him by the water?
What's that? Oh, it's okay to touch the water. Oh. "Gay-Gay, it ok. See."

ShowUs Where You Live - Kitchen

Kelly over at Kelly's Korner is hosting a Show Us Where You Live Friday. She is starting with kitchens. I was a little scared at first because it made me actually realize how far out of hand the kitchen had gotten. What a mess! So I did some (really, a lot of) cleaning and took some pics. Here is the kitchen from the breakfast area. It isn't big, but it has nice cornertops and appliances. The butcher block so doesn't fit in the space, but I love it. I'm a Navy wife, and I figure it will fit in the next house. Right? I can't get rid of it. Plus the bin underneath is where all the dirty bibs and washclothes go from cleaning up little ones.
Here is the kitchen from the dining room. The cabinets are great (although not my favorite color) because they stretch all the way to the ceiling. I can get so much stuff in them, and I do love the kitchen gadgets.
Below is a chalkboard that I made from posterboard, chalkboard paint, and some molding. I love this chalkboard. I change it for the holidays and birthdays, but most of the time it says "Guten Essen." This reminds me of when I met my husband, and we were students on an study abroad in Germany. It means Good Eating or Enjoy your meal or Bon Apetit.
Here is my pantry. What a mess!
Here is my kitchen table. I absolutely love this table. I bought it just before we moved from our last house while Pretty Boy was on deployment. Crazy #1 and I assembly it. It was a fun project. Now I love this table for new reasons. It can really take a beating. I think it still looks great, and it has been through a lot. The dark color hides markers. The chairs are very heavy and very hard to tip over. I love this table even if it is too big for the space. I'm sure it will fit perfectly in the next house. Military wives can always look forward to their next house because we know we will be moving soon.
I used to be such a stickler about not having anything of the refridgerator. It is still pretty bare, but I can't live without this whiteboard now. I have Mommy brain, and I would never know what I have planned for meals or what was it the freezer or what I needed at the store. I love lists.
I still haven't figured out what to do with the area above my fridge. Pictures hung on the wall look funny because they are so far back. I think I need to layer some stuff. Maybe a basket or something. I don't know.

Although my kitchen may be smaller than I want and the cabinets may not be my favorite color, the memories that we make there are wonderful. My sweet little chefs and I love to cook here.
