Super Savings

I can't find my receipt now, but I know I paid just under $50 at Kroger for all of this. I believe the Daytona 500 sale will be running again next week, so I am looking forward to taking advance of some others deals next week.
Later I went to Target for a quick trip. I spent $4.20 for all of these items. The strawberries are on sale for $1.99 and there are several $1 off coupons out there. I used ones from 2 mailers that I received. I got the hot dogs for 49c by stacking 2 - $1/1 coupons. I am saving these for the boys birthday parties. I have a freezer full now.
Now I'm off to set up a budget-friendly early 4th of July party. Maybe I'll post some pics later. Happy couponing!

Mischief and Mayhem

Aawww, my sweet precious Crazy boy. He has become quite the nuisance. Seriously. Nothing is safe.

He is using the Leapfrog table I just brought out for Sweetness as a stool to get into the cabinets, so while retrieving his Daddy's Swedish Fish (i.e. Father's Day gift), he actually peed on the table. That's right peed on it. I had to keep reminding myself that "pee is sterile, pee is sterile."

Here is short list of mayhem. Plastic forks spilled all over the floor. Threw zucchini bread batter on his mother. Emptied scrapbooking desk of supplies and paper. Threw ice cream scoop in bathroom and locked the door and closed it. Took speaker cover off and tried to use it as a ladder to get to t.v.

I turned around to see him pulling his sister by her leg into closet. It was like a horror movie where someone is being pulled into the abyss by the unseen monster. The thing that scares me the most is the fact that Sweetness didn't utter a sound. She obviously knows her place with the boys.
Here Crazy #2 is teaching his sister his mischievous ways. Don't be fooled by his innocent look. He is actually the one who spilled the cheerios all over the floor in an attempt to "feed baby". Look she is now trying to get in the bag and see what else she can find. Just what I need - more mischief. It is a good thing these kids are cute; it helps them get away with things.

I love this photo because it is all about mischief. I know that look on his face. He is up to no good.

What can I say? He is still a "boy" at heart. Showin' the kids how it's done.

Super Savings

HEB - $36.23 Out of Pocket
I used my coupons from HEB to get lots of free stuff plus a few extra items. I also got 6 pounds of chicken breast (not shown). I've stocked up my pantry/fridge so much that I really have got to start using that stuff, so most of the things that I will be making this week will be from staples I already have.
Later I ran by Target and picked up a few Kashi products. This are always priced so much better there than at other stores. The same waffles are $4.19 at HEB instead of $1.99 at Target. They are even more expensive at Kroger. I had $1.50/1 coupons for the waffles making them 49c ea. I had a $1.50/1 coupon for the cereal bars which made them $1.04. I had nothing out of pocket because I had a $5 giftcard from a previous weeks deals.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this weeks total. Hopefully, I can stay down around that level next week too. I am already planning my menu based on what I have in the pantry, so I think I will be able to stay pretty close. We will see what kind of deals show up next week. :)

The deals don't look that great this week. I think I'll head to HEB for a few staples (flour, cornmeal, milk, etc.) I have great coupons for free stuff there too. I'll pick up some chicken breasts and asparagus.

Super Savings

I went to Kroger and spent $75. Hopefully, next week will be cheaper. I have a lot of stuff in my fridge and pantry. I just need to use it, but I wanted a few special things for Father's Day. We are planning on grilling out for my dad; plus I want to start stocking up for hurricane season. Hence, things like dry milk and pudding. I will try to pick up a few cans each week.
All of this beautiful produce came from Juarez Produce Market on Nasa around Texas Ave. (I think). It was only $7 for all this. The watermelons alone would normally be close to that price. They just opened up a week ago. The gentleman who runs it was very nice, and we will definitely be going back.

Bountiful Harvest

So we are attempting the garden again this year. Last year was well - a flop. But this year has already been great. We've had tomatoes, onions, strawberries, blueberries, and herbs to enjoy so far. We have 2 more tomato plants that are full of green tomatoes. Our cherry tomato plant has tons on it. The cantaloupe already has 3 little melons on it. The zucchini are growing. The strawberries have been great and really easy. We only got a few blueberries, but they were amazing.

Plus the thing I'm probably most excited about is the rotting mass out my back door. That's right we are composting in a trash can made composter. I didn't think it was really working, but then I went to turn it with a shovel, and low and behold - there is black gold in that stuff. I can't believe it actually worked and so quickly. I can't wait to see if I really does improve our garden production. Of course, first I have to figure out how to sift out the compost from the rotting kitchen waste. Ooh gross!

Here is our composter. We just roll it every once in a while.

The new thing for the kids is to find stink bugs and tell Mommy and Daddy to squish them. They are all over our garden. I haven't seen much damage yet, but we are trying to kill as many as we see. Who knew gardening was so gross.

We are so excited about our garden this year. It has really done well. We love checking over it each day. Those folks over at the Galveston County Ag Extension really know what they are doing. Our gardening experience has been so improved this year from last year by following their advice. I can't wait to see what the fall will be like. We get to try out a whole new set of veggies. Lots of fun when it actually works. Ha!

I'm So Excited!!

I'm so excited because I just signed up for a photography workshop run by these two photographers (here and here). They weren't going to offer a workshop in June, but I guess they changed their minds. Yea for me! (See - Amelia is excited too.)

I really love both of their work. Brenda is so creative, and Kristy takes amazing lifestyle portraits. I'm so impressed that they are able to capture all those moments from the children and families that they photograph.

Plus I'm really looking forward to having someone critique my photos and help me develop better skills. Of course, I may have to borrow some of my friends children seeing as my own are done with the photos by mom. I'm trying my best to give them some space. Surely, other people's children would listen to me better than my own. Right?

I'll be hitting Kroger this week. I love summer. It equals good deals on produce. I see pineapple, carrots, watermelon, and peaches in our future. Plus Kraft cheese is on sale again, and pairs up with internet coupons that have been on the Kraft site. We go through so much cheese in this house; it's almost comical. That pizza deal might be a good deal depending how much the pizza is. I'll check it out.

I was hoping to see some better deals at HEB this week. I am loving getting those HEB coupons in the mail for free stuff. I don't know if everyone is getting these, or why I am, but I'm lovin' it.

Psst... I Have a Secret...

Identity that is. You see - we are a superhero family. That's right each and every one of us has a super power. Right down to baby Sweetness.

Obviously, it is in the genes. That's me in the Wonder Woman get-up and Pretty Boy in the Superman shirt. Crazy #1 is superhero crazy. His super powers include, but are not limited too being superfast and flying. (I'm a little scared of the second one. He asked if he could use our car window shade as a parachute yesterday.)

I don't think we have nailed down Crazy #2's super power yet, but Sweetness's power is to "fight the bad guys no matter what." Pretty impressive for a baby of only 7 months. Crazy #1 was quite offended when Papaw called her a "Princess". He informed Papaw that she was a superhero baby. We finally reconciled things by saying she could be both just like her mama, Wonder Woman. :) Daddy's power is to be "super strong" of course.

So here is the story of how you became a superhero. One day while Daddy was in Bahrain (a little embellishing there), we were in the mini-van. As we pulled out, there was a bunny in the neighbor's yard eating thier plants. You told me to roll down the window, and I did. You yelled "Fire!" at the bunny and scared him away. And that is how you became a superhero - or so you say. :)

Just remember my little superhero, that Mommy's super powers include Super Kisses that heal boo-boos and Super Love for all my superheros (and eyes-in-the-back-of-my-head). I love that you have included the whole family in your superhero fantasies. You are such a sweet, creative little boy. Now let's go fight some bad guys. Cha-Cha! Ka-Pow!
